Money-talk is always so icky, so I'll keep it short and sweet. I just received an email from the agency asking us to please make the arrangements to pay the remaining fee amount of $37,350.00. It needs to be paid before I leave to meet our baby who is due to be born in 2 weeks and 3 days. This past week we did the 2nd mortgage for $30,000.00 which should be deposited into out account tomorrow. That leaves $7,350.00 left to cover. We've raised $9,656.01 and spent $4,574.84 (click here to see how). This leaves us with $5,081.17 available to put toward the adoption fee. So, as of today, 12/26:
$41,700.00 total adoption fee
- $4,350.00 already paid to agency
- $30,000.00 loan amount
- $5,081.17 raised funds available
$2,268.83 left to cover
I posted a little while back that we found a way to cover the full adoption amount ourselves but it'd be a hardship so we'd still continue fundraising to ease the burden a bit. This is true. We plan to take out a 401K loan to cover the remaining $2,268.83. However, if you know of something or someone that may be able to help us not to have to do this please let us know.
And again, this does not include the travel fees, court costs, and possible medical bills. With Mya's adoption the travel fees were $3,696.75, the court costs were $767.62, and we were lucky enough to have no medical bills to pay (and are hoping for the same situation this time).
Thank you for all your love, support, and prayers!
Update: We have decided to put the remainder on a credit card then pay it off when all our fundraisers have ended and we receive the money to do so. We're not yet sure how much it'll be, but we'll just put it all toward whatever adoption fees we need to charge.
Also, Doug reminded me that we have enough skyMiles to pay for one plane ticket and enough to put toward the second plane ticket to make the price a bit lower. So our travel expenses would actually be lower this time!
Our Story
Any parent knows that they would do anything for their child, even something as uncomfortable as fundraising to help their child. We can’t bring our precious babe home without your help. Please share our story…While Doug and I had planned on adopting again in the future, I was surprised with a call from our agency. Our daughter Mya’s birthmother is expecting and wants us to adopt her baby boy due in only a few short months. Though we were excited at the news a look at our finances told us it was impossible. With adoption fees totaling over $40,000 (more than twice the fee for Mya's adoption) we knew there was no way my husband and I could possibly pay for this adoption. Over the past month we have done everything we can think of to come up with the money, including refinancing our home, looking at loans, slashing our budget, and setting up a garage sale. We are reaching out to anyone that can help us, no matter the size of the donation.
Please help us keep these beautiful children together. We deeply appreciate any and all donations, suggestions, and prayers.
